- Mountolive and Clea), a series of four novels set in the
- Egyptian city during the 1930s and '40s, was a best seller in
- the 1950s and 1960s; in Sommieres, France. Durrell maintained
- a prolific 45-year correspondence with American author Henry
- Miller.
